ABOUT STH DEPT.
BEFORE IT HAD A NAME
Sth Dept. started before it had a name.
Since 2012, we had been making menswear for other brands and clients. Some pieces we believed in kept getting rejected.
Too emotional. Too early. Not commercial enough. Everyone was very sure. Very.
So we made a few anyway, put them in a friend’s boutique, posted them online, and watched them sell better than expected.
Apparently, the clothes had other plans.
Annoying, honestly.
Also useful.
By 2026, waiting for someone else’s yes felt like a bad use of time.
So we made Sth Dept. — a place for the clothes we still believed in after the meeting ended.
THE NAME, SORT OF
Sth is something.
Apparently, even the name did not feel like typing the whole word.
Dept.
It is just not the kind that approves requests, books check-ins, or asks for one more version.
Sth Dept. borrows office language because that is where a lot of the feeling came from.
Then we made clothes with it.
NOT OUR FIRST SAMPLE
Sth Dept. did not make a logo and then start asking around for factories.
Since 2012, we have worked with people who actually make clothes, and who have also learned that not every opinion improves a garment.
Very clear. Very helpful.
Over the years, we kept working with the ones who still knew how to make the clothes properly after all that. They became our steady production circle, and in the most practical way, our friends.
Today, Sth Dept. works with long-term production partners, including BSCI- and SMETA-audited facilities.
Fewer strangers. Fewer unnecessary turns. Better conditions for making clothes the way we meant them to be made.
This is where the product comes from.
